3Born in a family which nurtured art and culture, Mr Pradyut Ray was introduced to the world of music, more specifically, the art of playing the TABLA, by his elder brother, Sri Pradip Kumar Ray. After having learnt the primary lessons from his brother, he began formal training under Guru Sri Goutam Sinha, the disciple of Pt. Mahapurush Mishra for seven years at a stretch . He considers himself fortunate to have received ‘taalim’ from several other distinguished maestros like Pt. Shankar Ghosh, Pt. Mahapurush Mishra and Pt. Anindo Chattopadhya.
         
As an accompanist he has performed with numerous vocalists as well as instrumentalists of prominence like Late Pt. A.T.Kanan & Smt. Malabika Kanan, Padmabhusan Girija Devi, Pt. Ullahas Kasalkar, Ustad Rashid Khan, Ustad Mashqoor Ali Khan, Pt. Jagdish Prasad, Pt. Mohanlal Mishra, Pt. Budhaditya Mukherjee, Pt. Rajendra Prasanna, Vidushi Purnima Chaudhuri and so on. He has also accompanied with the eminent dancer Pt. Brojen Mukherjee at the Kathak Kendra of Pt. Birju Maharaj in New Delhi.
         
As a solo recitalist, he has performed in different parts of India and has proved his mettle from time to time with his various accomplishments.
 
Mr Pradyut Kumar Ray happens to be a respected, popular and regular artiste of the All India Radio also.
         
He has performed in scores of prestigious festivals in India as well as abroad. He displayed his supreme talent through solo performances, as well as through fusion recitals consistently over the last few years. In recent past his recitals at Sangeet Natak Academy Delhi, Sahitya Kala Parishad Delhi and Rajya Sangeet Academy Kolkata were well appreciated by the elite audience. In the year 2006, he represented Bangladesh in the Indo-German Festival held in Bonn, Germany. His performances in Holland and Switzerland have endeared him to innumerable music lovers around the world. His skill and reputation has also been put on display through various electronic and print media. He has earned the blessings of legends such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Shyamal Bose and the like.
 
His dramatic sense of rhythm, his ability to create a vivid and spectacular image with his rhythm and beats, his ability to connect to the audience has conquered the hearts of thousands of listeners.
